When Vanessa first came to OLGA Clinic in 2019 she was 39 — a healthy, determined solo mother dreaming of one more child. She had no IVF experience, but she had a strong history of natural conceptions — one birth and two terminations, the last in 2013. No one, including her doctors in France, suspected that this past would stand between her and her dream.
But as her journey soon revealed, sometimes the heart’s strongest wishes require patience, healing, and the right people by your side.
A Hopeful Beginning — and an Unexpected Obstacle
At 40 years old and with AMH 1,7, Vanessa began her first IVF treatment with OLGA. Her results were encouraging: 8 eggs collected → 3 blastocysts → 2 chromosomally normal embryos after PGTa.
A hysteroscopy in France had shown no issues, but during preparation for the first embryo transfer, the OLGA team detected something concerning. A polyp seen on ultrasound led to a new hysteroscopy at OLGA in July 2019 — and the problem was uncovered. Inside Vanessa’s uterus, doctors found old pregnancy tissue from a termination eight years earlier, along with significant inflammation. This hidden condition was quietly preventing implantation.
From July to September 2019, Vanessa followed a step-by-step treatment plan designed to restore her uterine health:
- Antibiotics, antifungals and probiotics to stop inflammation
- Measures to prevent new scar tissue
- Endometrial growth factors
- Treatments to improve blood circulation
- Immune-modulating therapy to calm inflammation
In October and December 2019 Vanessa came for two consequent embryo transfers. Despite good endometrial thickness (9.8 mm and 7.6 mm), unfortunately, neither attempt resulted in pregnancy.
A Second IVF Cycle — and a Second Chance
In August 2020, now 41 and with a lower AMH of 0.4, Vanessa began her second IVF cycle. This cycle exceeded all expectations: 14 eggs collected → 9 blastocysts → 3 chromosomally normal embryos after PGTa.
Still, the endometrium remained thin and irregular. Therefore, a new hysteroscopy in October 2020 was performed. Itrevealed the reason: hard scar tissue and severe inflammation in the uterine wall.
Another round of healing followed and included antibiotics, antifungal treatment, probiotics, hyaluronidase to prevent adhesions, blood-flow support, and growth factors.
By December 2020, Vanessa’s lining was beautifully restored at 9.8 mm.
The third embryo transfer brought a long-awaited positive result.
In November 2021, Vanessa gave birth to her healthy baby boy after a C-section complicated by placenta accreta—another event that carried a risk of scarring and future fertility challenges.
But back then her dream finally came true!
Returning for a Sibling
In 2024, Vanessa returned to OLGA for the second mutual journey towards motherhood.
We started with a hysteroscopy in May.
The hysteroscopy revealed new scar tissue in the uterine fundus and left wall which were removed during the procedure. Histology again showed inflammation.
Between June and November 2024, Vanessa underwent additional treatment before the embryo transfer:
- Two courses of targeted antibacterial treatment
- Hyaluronidase to prevent adhesions
- Antiviral therapy
- Endometrial growth-factor treatment
With a healthy endometrium of 8.6 mm, her third embryo transfer in December 2024 succeeded.
In September 2025, Vanessa welcomed her healthy baby boy!
