Polina Fomina

Fertility Nurse

My path towards my profession

I received a medical education at the State Medical College of Brest city.
My work experience started in 2008 in an oncology center for children in the department for the smallest ones. I was young, brave and was eager to help children and their parents to fight and to hope for the best.
During the first month there I was learning how to be a treatment nurse. Then I changed to a desk nurse. Apart from the usual work of a desk nurse, we helped our treatment nurse to prepare solutions for constant intravenous infusions, kept an eye on infusomats (pomps) that frequently went out of order, fed and washed the abandoned children. IV catheters broke quite often as it is difficult to explain to small children that they shouldn’t turn or bend the arm as they want to hold a pencil or a spoon.

The oncology center had a wonderful team, but there was not enough staff, so each employee really spent a lot of time at work, it was our second home. Many children stayed for months and, of course, became close and dear to my heart. We were happy for their achievements. With some of them I still keep in touch.

After three years of hard physical and emotional work, I was in dire need of a reboot. So my new job I found in the Netherlands, where for one year I was a nanny for 4 wonderful children in a small village. It was a very joyful year! I found out loads of new things. I got acquainted with the country: with culture, local cuisine, visited cheese factory and incredible flower park.  I, of course, fell in love with this little Kingdom.

With children we spent great time together, we walked a lot and watched cartoons. One day I showed them Soviet cartoons and they were so excited! It became our little tradition – every Friday before dinner there was complete silence in the house – everybody was captivated by the cartoons story. But my contract came to an end and I came back home.

In 2012 I was offered a position of a nurse in a private medical center where I worked for 4 years. I worked in a blood collection room and also helped different specialists during their appointments. Sometimes I was asked to help in an operation room. There for the first time in my life I saw hair transplant, liposuction and ELT under local anesthesia. It was very interesting. I always had a lot of work. But then a new employer came and the rules changed. I decided to quit and move to Saint-Petersburg.

I passed the courses that confirmed my education and in 2016 I got a place in a private clinic as a treatment nurse at the pediatric department. In general, I took tests, gave vaccines, administered shots and helped a pediatrician during appointments. The team was not big, the work was nice. Three years passed and some changes happened.

In 2019, I was invited to work at O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic. I saw in this proposal an opportunity for professional growth, studying a new and interesting branch of medicine for me — reproductive medicine — and agreed. Now I work in a wonderful team that knows so much about the path of a person to the happiness of parenthood.

The O.L.G.A. Clinic

I started my work at O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic in the autumn 2019. This job was different from my previous experience: a different direction of medicine, new responsibilities and workflow. But I quickly mastered all the nuances and work with pleasure in a team that is a reliable guide for many people on the journey to happiness...

Our team is like elves at Santa’s house. Each of us makes her/his own input into achieving the common goal. And before the midnight when a present is ready and put under the Christmas tree, we all stop for a moment. With hope we are waiting if the present will be accepted, if it settles down in this home… And after that we celebrate if it passes all well.  Or we get very sad if the present was rejected. But we never give up and keep working to create the miracles together. I am pleased to consider myself one of these elves.
