Our egg donor program
At O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic, we maintain our own egg donor program: we choose only fertile, attractive, young women who have medical tests, included in our screening process. The majority of women who are in need of egg donor program to conceive a child have come over hard times in finding a fitting egg donor who satisfies their requirements. Just a minority of women has a sister or friend who has enough motivation and will to go through the egg donation procedure on their behalf.
Finding your own egg donor
Egg donation is a form of infertility treatment that demands a large amount of responsibility from the donor. She must be willing to go through a cycle of IVF procedures up to and including the egg collection phase. She must be ready to accept the idea that, if successful, the procedure will lead to the birth of a child with her genes. She must also be prepared for the fact that the treatment may fail. Finding such a special candidate among your relatives is hard.
Sometimes sisters or friends offer to donate, although not everyone has enough determination that egg donation demands. And even then, you may not want to accept the offer, for instance if the woman concerned has many differences in appearance with you. It is a highly personal issue, yet the potential donor may be hurt if you reject her offer. There may also be reasons related to health why a person should not become an egg donor. For example, many clinics do not recruit egg donors who are overweight, or who are too old for this form of treatment to have a high probability of success. In addition to that, the would-be egg donor may feel under pressure to donate, and we have seen many cases where an offer to donate is then retracted when the donor becomes more acquainted with what is expected of her, or if she has changed her mind. For the childless woman or couple who are entrusting their chances to have a child to this egg donor, such a refusal can be devastating.
Shortage of egg donors
It can also be a hard task to find donor egg program in a clinic or hospital. A majority of European countries now have laws prohibiting anonymous donor egg programs. As soon as this came into power, the number of women wishing to donate their eggs to help infertile couples has dramatically decreased. In countries such as Germany, Italy, Norway, Switzerland egg donation is simply forbidden. In the Netherlands, the majority of clinics do not accept egg donors younger then 30, or those who have not completed their own family, and the egg recipients should be younger than 45 to be accepted in the donor egg program. Even in countries with more liberal legislation, such as the UK, the retracting of anonymity resulted in waiting lists for egg donation expanding up to several years. The chance of simply finding an egg donor at all, or finding the one who satisfies your requirements, is often very small.
The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic Donor Bank
To control the lack of egg donors, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic maintains its own donor egg program: a ‘bank’ of fertile, young, attractive women. Our donors all have proven fertility, with at least one child of their own. They have undergone tests confirming their general health and psychological stability, and are ready to donate if they are chosen. Thanks to these ladies, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has no waiting list for egg donation. Find out more about our recruitment and screening process for egg donors.
