Our egg donors
At O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic, we maintain our own bank of egg donors: attractive, young, fertile women who have passed our medical tests. Most women who need donated eggs to get pregnant have experienced difficulties in finding a suitable egg donor agency that can match her with the best possible donor.
Finding your own egg donor
Egg donation is a process that demands a lot of motivation from the donor. She must be ready to go through the whole IVF treatment cycle up to and including the step where her prepared eggs are harvested. She must accept the idea that, if successful, the procedure will result in the birth of a child with her genes. She must also be ready for the fact that the treatment may be unsuccessful. Finding such a person is a hard task.
Sometimes female relatives or friends offer to donate, although not everyone is really able to invest time and effort which are necessary for egg donation. And even then, you may not want to accept the offer, for instance if the lady who wants to be a donor does not look like you. It is a highly individual issue, yet the would-be donor may be offended if you reject their heartily offer. There may also be medical motives why a person should not become an egg donor. For instance, many clinics will not perform the treatment if an egg donor is overweight, or is too old for the procedure to have a good chance of success. Furthermore, the potential egg donor may feel under pressure to donate, and we have encountered many cases where an offer to donate is then withdrawn when the donor finds out more about risks that she can face during egg donation. For the infertile woman or couple who are relying on this egg donor, such a refusal can be depressing.
Shortage of egg donors
Unfortunately, it can also be very hard to find an egg donor via an egg donation agency or hospital. Many countries in Europe now have laws prohibiting anonymous egg donation. Since this came into force, the number of potential egg donors has decreased. In countries such as Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Norway, egg donation is strictly forbidden. In the Netherlands, many hospitals do not work with egg donors under the age of 30, or those who have not completed their own family, while egg recipients should be no older than 45. Even in countries with more liberal legislation, such as the UK, the removal of anonymity means that waiting lists for egg donation can stretch up to several years. The possibility of finding an egg donor at all, and especially the one who fits your requirements, is often very low.
The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic Donor Bank
To get over the shortage of egg donors, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has founded an egg donor ‘bank’ of young, healthy, attractive women. Our donors all have proven fertility, with at least one healthy child of their own. They have undergone comprehensive medical tests, and are ready to donate as soon as they are chosen. Thanks to these ladies, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has no waiting list for egg donation. This programme is more than a number of egg donation agencies can offer. Find out more about our recruitment and screening process for egg donors.
