After our charter flights were discontinued in August this year due to refusal from local authorities, O.L.G.A. Clinic spent 2,5 months negotiating and lobbying to get them permitted again.
While we kept lobbying for resumption of charter flights, we urgently arranged buses going from St. Petersburg to Helsinki and back in late August – October. These buses picked our clients up at arrivals in Helsinki airport and brought them to St. Petersburg and back. As O.L.G.A. clinic owners we have subsidized the whole buses whether there were 15 or 30 passengers on board.
Yesterday, 3 November, Dr. Michael finally achieved the official permission for our clinic’s own charter flights to restart! Our flights will go every Sunday from St. Petersburg to Helsinki and back at least from 8 November
until 27 December. Congratulations!
We fought for this opportunity for our clients because we believe that 1 hour flight and quick passage through formalities in Finland and Russia that we supervise is better than 9h bus trip from Helsinki to St. Petersburg and back with unpredictable waiting time and decisions at Finnish and Russian borders.
And since we believe so, we will subsidize the whole flights. We have to pay for the whole airplane both ways already from 8 November. This was outside of our control that negotiations with local authorities took unpredictable amount of time. Actually, these negotiations had unpredictable prognosis either – we never knew whether we would get flights approved or not.
The charge for one ticket will be 290€ one way independent on whether there will be 50 or 2 passengers on board. Departure every Sunday from 8 November, from St. Petersburg at 15:55 local time, from Helsinki – at 16:55 local time.

What are the alternatives?
- We have to accept that we do not have enough funds to subsidize both: the buses and the flights; we chose to subsidize flights even if this is a higher financial risk for us, because we think this option is best for our clients.
- There are regular flight connections, for example, via London, Zurich, Moscow and Istanbul, here we have no influence on flight cancellations or decisions during formalities on departure and arrival.
- We can arrange a taxi from St. Petersburg to the border between Russia and Estonia (3h, 100€) and from the border - another taxi to Tallinn airport (3h 110€); there is a 200m walk between two countries during which passport formalities are done. We can arrange a taxi but have no influence on formalities.
We believe that a regular flight to Helsinki with convenient connecting charter flight from Helsinki to St. Petersburg and back, quick passage through formalities - supervised by us - is the best travel option for our clients today.
