Sperm donation

Sperm donation becomes an option for couples with severe mail factor (if no sperm cells found in the sperm fluid and no sperm cells found in testicles with TESA method). Single women under 41 can also be recipients of donated sperm. In this case either artificial insemination or IVF methods can be used. In case of donated sperm ICSI method is not required in O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic, because

Our prescreened donors have very good sperm quality:

  • concentration more than 80 mln/ml,
  • progressive motility (A+B more than 60%),
  • normal morphololgy more than 60%,
  • cryotoleranse (does not loose it's quolities after freezing – thowing procedure).

In single women above 41 mostly sperm donation + egg donation or embryo adoption methods are used because of low own egg quality.

Sperm donors in O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic clinic are sporty healthy well educated men between 25 and 40 years of age who have own healthy children. They have pleasant appearance but no bright dominating features, so that the baby has high possibility to inherit the looks of the mother

According to Decree N67, and in compliance with ASRM and ESHRE recommendations (American Society for Reproductive Medicine. 2002 ; ESHRE Task Force on Ethics and Law 2002),

sperm donors in our clinic undergo the following examination:

  • Sperm test
  • Blood group test
  • HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C (every 3 months)
  • Genetic screening: genetic family history, chromosome screening.
  • Annual appointment with a Therapeut (general health checkup).
  • Annual appointment with psychiatrist.
  • Appointment with andrologist incl. tests for genital infections (Chlamydia, Herpes, and others every 6 months).

Only frozen-thawed sperm is allowed for use in O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic. A sample is frozen and stored 6 months, after which the donor repeats his blood test for HIV, Hepatitis B and C. If the result which shows no infection, the sperm can be used for a patient. Only frozen sperm use helps to avoid transmission of such serious infections as HIV, Hepatitis B and C.

Selecting an anonymous sperm donor, we consider race, height, skin, eyes and hair color, blood group and Rh-factor, as well as special concerns of a couple. Recipients are provided with comprehensive non-identifying information about their sperm donor (i.e. such information that does not contain any personal data). For the purpose of keeping the sperm donor's privacy untouched, we don't supply photographs.

Full anonymity is supported by legislation of Russian Federation (Foundations of legislation of Russian Federation on protection of people's health (revision as of 20 December 1999, item 35). We treat absolute anonymity with respect. We inform our patients that if the procedure is anonymous, no identifying information will be disclosed to the parents or the sperm donor. No information about the fact of sperm donation will be disclosed by the clinic to the child. Thus we believe to protect parents, the donor and the child.

Though there are no waiting lists for anonymous sperm donation in our clinic, we practice both allowed models of sperm donation: “known” sperm donation (by “own sperm donors” — family members or friends) and anonymous sperm donation.

We will focus on diagnostics and individualized treatment of those inflammatory, hormonal, immune and other conditions that may impair implantation and lead to pregnancy losses. The goal is to increase live birth rates per each embryo transferred and reduce the potential number of embryo transfers till live birth by optimally preparing the uterus and the whole body for forthcoming embryo transfer.
