Our female egg donors
At O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic, we have our own base of female egg donors: fertile, young, attractive women who have gone through all the required by law medical tests and psychological screening. Most women who need donated eggs in order to get pregnant have faced difficulties in finding a suitable female egg donor. Not everyone has a sister or friend able to go through the egg donation treatment on their behalf.
Finding your own female egg donor
Egg donation is a form of treatment that demands a lot of commitment from the donor. She must be ready to undergo the whole IVF procedures cycle up to and including the phase where her nature eggs are harvested. She must be able to accept the idea that, if successful, the treatment will lead to the birth of a child with her genes. She must also be aware of the fact that the treatment may not work. Finding a person who satisfies these requirements is not easy.
Sometimes sisters or friends offer to donate their eggs, although not everyone is able to commit themselves to the time and effort that egg donation involves. And even then, you may not want to accept the offer, for instance if the person who wants to be your donor does not look like you. It is a highly personal issue, yet the would-be donor may be upset if you turn them down. There may also be health related reasons why a person should not become an egg donor. For example, many clinics do not treat female egg donors who are overweight, or who are of advanced age for the procedure to have a high chance of success. Furthermore, the would-be egg donor may feel under pressure to donate, and we have seen many cases where an offer to donate is then retracted as the donor becomes more familiar with what is expected of her, or if she has second thoughts. For the infertile woman or couple who are relying on this egg donor, such a refusal can be critical.
Shortage of egg donors
Unfortunately, it can also be a hard job to find an egg donor with an assistance of a clinic or hospital. Many European countries now have laws prohibiting anonymity in egg donation. Since this came into power, the number of women who want to donate their eggs to help infertile couples has fallen dramatically. In countries such as Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Norway, egg donation is forbidden at all. In the Netherlands, many hospitals do not accept female egg donors under the age of 30, or those who have not completed their own family, while egg recipients should be no older than 45. Even in countries with more liberal laws, such as the UK, the withdrawal of anonymity led to waiting lists for egg donation lasting up to several years. The possibility of finding an egg donor at all, and especially the one who fits your requirements, is often very remote.
The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic Donor Bank
To overcome the lack of egg donors, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic maintains an egg donor ‘bank’ of healthy, young, attractive women. Our donors all have proven fertility, meaning they have at least one healthy child of their own. They have undergone comprehensive medical tests, and are ready to donate if they are chosen. Thanks to these ladies, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has no waiting list for egg donation. Find out more about our recruitment and screening process for egg donors.
