Our egg donators
At O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic, we have our own bank of egg donators: young, fertile, attractive women who have passed our medical and other tests. Most women who need donated eggs to get pregnant have gone through difficulties in finding a suitable egg donator. Just a part of people has a sister or friend able and willing to go through the egg donation procedure on their behalf.
Finding your own egg donator
Egg donation is a procedure that requires a lot of commitment from the donor. She must be ready to go through the whole cycle of IVF treatment up to and including the part where her egg cells are collected. She must be able to accept the fact that, if successful, the procedure will result in the birth of a child carrying her genes. She must also be ready for the fact that the treatment may not work. Finding such a special person is hard.
Sometimes sisters or friends offer to donate their eggs, although not everyone is able and willing to commit to the time and effort that egg donation involves. And even then, you may not want to accept the offer, for instance if the person who accepted to donate does not look like you. It is a highly personal issue, yet the would-be donor may be upset if you turn them down. There may also be some medical reasons why a person should not become an egg donator. For example, many clinics do not accept egg donators who are overweight, or whose age is too high for the treatment to have a good chance of success. Furthermore, the would-be egg donator may feel under pressure to donate, and we have faced many cases where an offer to donate is then pulled back when the donor finds out more about what is expected of her, or if she has second thoughts. For the infertile women or couples who are relying on this egg donor, such a refusal can be depressingly devastating.
Shortage of egg donators
Unfortunately, it can also be hard to find an egg donator with a help of a clinic or hospital. Many European countries now have laws prohibiting anonymous egg donation. Since this came into effect, the number of women offering to donate their eggs to help infertile couples has fallen dramatically. In countries such as Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Norway, egg donation is strictly forbidden. In the Netherlands, many clinics do not accept egg donators under the age of 30, or those who have not made their own family, while egg recipients should be no older than 45. Even in countries with more tolerant laws, such as the UK, the anonymity removal means that waiting lists for egg donation can extend to several years. The possibility of finding an egg donator at all, noth even the one who fits your requirements, may take years of waiting.
The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic Donor Bank
To overcome the shortage of egg donators, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has set up an egg donator ‘bank’ of healthy, young, attractive women. Our donors all have proven fertility, which means they have at least one child of their own. They have passed comprehensive medical and other tests, and are ready to donate if they are chosen. Thanks to these women, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has no waiting list for egg donation. Find out more about our recruitment and screening process for egg donators. process for egg donators.
