Our egg donors
At O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic, we have set up our own database available to search for egg donors: fertile, young, attractive women who have gone through our medical tests. Most of ladies who wish to use donated eggs to get pregnant have encountered difficulties in finding a suitable egg donor meeting their requirements. Not everyone has a sister or friend who has enough motivation and will to undergo the egg donation procedure on their behalf.
Searching for your own egg donor
Egg donation is a type of treatment that demands a lot of commitment from the donor. She must be willing to undergo a number of medical procedures up to and including the egg retrieval step. She must be able to accept the idea that, if successful, the treatment will result in the birth of a child having her genes. She must also be familiar with the possibility of the treatment may not work. Finding such a special person among your circle of friend is not easy.
In some cases sisters or friends offer to donate, although just a small number of them has enough will and motivation that egg donation involves. And even in that situation, you may not wish to consent to the offer, for example if the woman concerned looks differently from you. It is a highly private issue, yet the would-be donor may be hurt if you reject her offer of donation. There may also be some reasons related to health why a person should not become an egg donor. As an example, many clinics do not recruit egg donors who are overweight, or who are too old for the procedure to have a high chance of success. In addition to that, the potential egg donor may feel under pressure to donate, and we have encountered many cases where an offer to donate is then retracted when the donor becomes more aware of what is expected of her, or if she has second thoughts. For the childless woman or couple who are relying on this egg donor, such a withdrawal can be very depressing.
Shortage of egg donors
Unfortunately, it can also be hard to search for egg donor with a help of a clinic or hospital. A majority of European countries now have legislation forbidding anonymous egg donation. At the time this came into power, the amount of women who wish to donate their eggs to help infertile couples has considerably decreased. In countries such as Switzerland, Norway, Italy and Austria egg donation is completely prohibited. In the Netherlands, the majority of clinics do not screen egg donors younger then 30, or those who have not completed their own family, while egg recipients must be younger than 45. Even in countries with more tolerant laws, such as UK, the withdrawal of anonymity means that waiting lists for egg donation can stretch up to several years. The possibility of a successful search for egg donor is low. And finding the one who satisfies your requirements, is in most cases nearly impossible.
The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic Donor Bank
To overcome the difficulties of search for egg donors, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic maintains an egg donor ‘bank’ of attractive and young women. Our donors all have proven fertility, with at least one child of their own. They have undertaken thorough medical tests, and are ready to donate if they are chosen. Thanks to these ladies, O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic has no waiting list for egg donation. Find out more about our recruitment and screening process for egg donors.
