O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic and St. Petersburg

Coming to St. Petersburg

Coming to St. Petersburg

The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic is situated in the heart of St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city. It is easy to get to, with regular flights to St. Petersburg from cities throughout Europe. The clinic is surrounded by hotels, shops, canals and cultural sights such as museums, art galleries, theatre and opera houses.

Location

St. Petersburg is built on Russia's west coast, looking out over the Gulf of Finland. Thanks to its coastal location, it is not subject to the extremes of temperature that affect inland cities such as Moscow.

Its beautiful, intricate architecture and many picturesque canals have led it it being called 'The Venice of the North'.

It is easy to explore both on foot and by public transport, with dozens of important historical and cultural sights located a short distance from one another.

St. Petersburg is a favourite destination for travellers wanting an interesting, varied and accessible city break.

Our clinic

We are based on Nevsky Prospekt, immediately opposite the magnificent Kazan Cathedral. This is just one of the imposing sights to be seen within a few minutes' walk of O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic. Others include the Russian Museum, The Church on the Spilled Blood and of course the Hermitage, which houses some of Russia's foremost treasures.

Nevsky Prospekt is one of the most important streets in St. Petersburg, and extremely conveniently located for culture, shops, restaurants and hotels. The O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic is just one minute's walk from Nevsky Prospekt Metro, and many buses pass our door. Nevsky Prospect is the main shopping street in our great city, offering everything from individual specialist shops to department stores. It also has a wide variety of cafés and restaurants where you can relax and watch the local fashions walk by.

And what an exciting city full of culture! I totally enjoyed myself in St Petersburg. I went to see a great Russian ballet (and had some caviar during the pause, unfortunately no champagne for me though;). I was offered a private city tour in the morning before the embryo transfer. I was there alone during three days but I never felt like it. Reading the map and street names could be tricky but it is exciting, people are helpful, the city feels safe and there are taxies if you do not fancy walking;) I have to return to St Petersburg.

Travel

So you thought the journey to St Petersburg would take longer! Most patients are amazed by how quick and easy it is to travel to our clinic. With the support of our personal coordinators this trip becomes both easy and enjoyable as St Petersburg not only offers our wonderful and successful clinic, but also a wealth of history, entertainment and culture.

Most of our non-Russian patients arrive by air at Pulkovo Airport (www.pulkovoairport.ru) which is situated about 15 km to the south of the city centre. Many scheduled flights arrive here each day from other European cities. We will be glad to arrange a taxi to take you to your hotel or to O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic Сlinic. There are also shuttle buses travelling between the airport and a number of Metro stations in the city.

Flight time

To travel to Russia from most countries also requires a Visa, although this may sound time consuming, it is in fact very quick, easy and straight forward just like the flights!

All countries that require you to obtain a Visa will have their own Visa application and support offices.

It is best to arrange this as far in advance as possible, as soon as you are certain of the dates of your Initial Consultation and/or the embryo transfer. Sometimes your visa can be arranged by your travel agency if you give them sufficient notice, but if you are travelling independently you will need to arrange it yourself. We can help you by supplying the papers you require to obtain a visa.

If you are traveling for initial consultation, for sperm cryopreservation or embryo transfer, you can come to St.Petersburg by ferry and stay up to 72 hours without visa. The ferries leave from Helsinki (Finland) and Tallin (Estonia).

Hotels

There is a wide variety of hotels of all price classes within a few minutes' walk of O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic. This means you can reach us quickly and easily, secure in the knowledge that you will not be late for an important appointment. We have details of some nearby hotels on our hotels page. We can help you with choosing a hotel and also arrange your visa support documents.

Enjoying your stay

Depending on whether or not you come to O.L.G.A. Fertility Clinic for an Initial Consultation, you will visit St. Petersburg either once or twice. Although the main reason you come to our great city is to become a parent, you might as well enjoy your stay too! Some of our patients enjoy strolling along our beautiful canals and sampling the menus at restaurants specialising in Russian or other cuisine. Others decide to take in as many sights as possible, while quite a few cannot resist booking a night at the opera or Mariinsky (previously named the Kirov) Ballet. There are also many shopping delights to be had, ranging from snapping up inexpensive Matrushka dolls for your friends and family to investing in an authentic Russian winter coat. Whatever your interests, a little planning before you get here will ensure that you have a pleasant visit.
